To work as an RN in Vermont you license with the Board of Nursing through the Secretary of State's Office of Professional Regulation (OPR) online services. You submit the RN application by examination with the processing fee, a fingerprint-supported federal criminal background check and your transcript, choose a single-state or multistate licence, and the Board approves you to sit the NCLEX-RN, which must be passed within five years of graduation. OPR processes in about three to five business days and can issue a 90-day provisional licence while a background check is pending. Vermont joined the compact on February 1, 2022.
